Please, you're making rash judgements on one single image. Again. At least wait until you hear just WHY they're doing this, maybe they have a good reason for once.

Besides, I have a feeling it's a similar sort of thing to Sonic and the Secret Rings. A Storybook, if you will. Based of Arthurian legends, with Excalibur etc. Which I personally would really like to see.

You can be skeptical, but don't go whining 'this is the death of Sonic' just yet, okay?
